With the trend of hair loss affecting more and more younger individuals, it has become the most common problem plaguing people. Finasteride and Minoxidil are commonly used to address the problem of hair loss, however, their disadvantages are obvious. Apart from side effects such as causing contact dermatitis and hirsutism, the most undesirable aspect is that once the medication is stopped, the problem of hair loss recurs. In contrast, plant extracts have fewer side effects. For this reason, JAKA has developed Hairdian AP, which is extracted from four natural plants, to treat hair loss. Hairdian AP is an ingredient designed based on the hair growth cycle. The hair growth cycle can be divided into three stages. In the anagen phase, lots of nutrients are transferred to the base of the hair follicle. Hair grows rapidly and maintains this state for 2 to 6 years. When transitioning to the catagen phase, the capillaries separate from the dermal papilla cells, and hair growth stops. Once hair stops growing, it will enter the telogen phase. When the hair falls out, in the same site, a new hair follicle is formed, and a new cycle begins. In physiological hair loss, most hair follicles are in the anagen phase, so there is no need to intervene too much, while in pathological hair loss, the proportion of hair follicles in the telogen phase increases significantly. The traditional way for anti-hair loss is either boosting growth factors or reducing sebum secretion. Based on these ways, JAKA explore a new way - autophagy. Cellular autophagy is an essential mechanism that enables cells to maintain material turnover, degrade, and recycle senescent proteins, damaged organelles, and other wastes. This process ensures the metabolic needs of the cell and facilitates the renewal of certain organelles, both of which are crucial for the survival of the cell. LC3 II proteins and autophagosomes serve as key markers of the autophagy process, and their concentrations are positively correlated with the level of autophagy. In vitro tests prove that 0.1% to 0.4% Hairdian AP can significantly enhance the autophagy and viability of dermal papilla cells under starvation culture, by promoting the expression of LC3 II proteins and the formation of autophagosomes. Besides, in vitro test results show that Hairdian AP can significantly promote cell proliferation and increase the content of VEGF and FGF-7. It also increases the expression of COL17 in dermal papilla cells and inhibits lipid synthesis under the irritation of linoleic acid. JAKA also proves the anti-hair loss effect of Hairdian AP in clinical tests. The results indicate that after applying an essence containing 2% Hairdian AP and a shampoo containing 1% Hairdian AP, respectively, for 2 and 4 weeks, the number of shedding hairs decreased significantly. The longer it is used, the better effect of anti-hair loss.
In conclusion, based on a new study of hair follicle autophagy, Hairdian AP effectively relieves hair loss by enhancing autophagy of dermal papilla cells and boosting growth factors, promoting XVII collagen production and regulating sebum secretion. Its water-soluble and non-irritating feature makes it to apply in anti-hair loss and oil control products, such as shampoos and essences, which provide a novel way to combat hair loss.
