ABSTRACT:
Smopore LC is a natural active raw material extracted from Lotus corniculatus seed.The target of Smopore LC is sebaceous gland cells. Its efficacy in oil control and pore minimization has been verified in clinical tests through immediate reduction of sebum secretion and long-term regulation of sebaceous gland cell activity.

In recent years, excess oil secretion on the skin surface has become a more and more common skin problem with the acceleration of the pace of life. Oily skin is frequently accompanied by large pores, and contributes to the development of acne. Based on the analysis of the causes of enlarged pores, it is found that the root cause is overactive sebaceous glands and excessive secretion of sebum. Sebum can maintain the integrity of the cutaneous lipid barrier, transport antioxidants to the skin surface, and have antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory activities. However, excess oil secretion on the skin surface causes great discomfort and should be treated.
Sebaceous gland cells are the main cells of the sebaceous gland structure. Excessive sebum secretion on the skin surface is closely related to the differentiation, synthesis, and secretion of lipids by sebaceous gland cells. Smopore LC was developed based on a full life cycle research of sebaceous glands. The research uses SZ95 sebocytes, which possess both the crucial characteristics of primary sebaceous gland cells and the advantages of immortalization, tracking the whole pathway of lipid synthesis through three stages: the initial stage, the activation stage, and the release stage.
In vitro tests prove that at the initial stage, Smopore LC can effectively inhibit 3T3-L1 cell differentiation. Smopore LC also effectively regulates the activation stage of sebaceous glands in environments such as fatty acid-LA and excessive androgen secretion-DHT/AR, and at the release stage, Smopore LC effectively reduce lipid synthesis induced by acid-LA.
For the first time, "5'-O-rhamnosyluridine", an effective molecule for immediate oil control, was extracted and identified from the plant kingdom. In addition, the quercetin contained in LC has the effect of long-term oil control, which makes Smopore LC excel in both immediate and long-term sebum control in clinical trials.
The current astringent raw materials on the market mainly focus on zinc astringent or organic acid astringent. They achieve the effect of shrinking pores through protein denaturation and will have a negative impact on the skin. However, Smopore LC regulates from the root "sebaceous glands" and regulates it from the physiology. It achieves the effect of "refining pores" through a unique oil control channel.
Besides, Smopore LC has good water solubility, is suitable for a variety of dosage forms, and has excellent compatibility. In conclusion, compared with other oil-controlling functional ingredients, the mechanism of this raw material covers the entire process of sebum secretion and has the effect of shrinking pores. Smopore LC shows promise as a new botanical ingredient for oily skin.
