Trishveda Naturals, an innovative raw ingredients manufacturer of science-backed botanical actives for the cosmetic industry, introduces PoreLyte™, an ingredient designed to regulate sebum production and soothe inflammation associated with breakout-prone skin.

We developed PoreLyte™, using Principles of Ayurveda and proprietary platform TrishOmics™, which integrates traditional Ayurvedic wisdom with modern molecular research to target key inflammatory pathways involved in breakout formation.

The innovation has gained recognition across the personal care industry, receiving several prestigious accolades, including the Jury’s Choice Award at HPCI India 2026 and the Poster Presentation Award at the ISCC Biennial Conference 2026.

Understanding the biology of breakouts: targeting Sebum and Inflammation

Breakouts remains one of the most prevalent dermatological conditions worldwide, affecting nearly 9.4% of the global population and up to 85% of adolescents aged 12–24. Excessive sebum production, chronic inflammation, and microbial activity are the primary drivers of breakouts formation.

To better understand these mechanisms, Trishveda Naturals used a bioinformatics-driven research approach to map the molecular pathways involved in breakout pathogenesis. Through the analysis of more than 54,000 genes, the research team identified key inflammatory markers that drive breakout formation, including IL-6, IL-1β, CXCL8 and TNF-α

A multi-target botanical approach

PoreLyte™ is a synergistic botanical complex combining Ayurvedic herbal plants known for their anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial and sebum-regulating properties.

The formulation includes extracts from:

  • Phyllanthus emblica (Indian gooseberry)
  • Glycyrrhiza glabra (Licorice)
  • Ocimum sanctum (Holy basil)
  • Nigella sativa (Black cumin seed)
  • Azadirachta indica (Neem)

These botanicals are rich in bioactive compounds such as polyphenols, ursolic acid, thymoquinone and azadirachtin, which help regulate inflammatory cytokines and reduce oxidative stress in the skin.

By influencing key signaling pathways including TNF, NF-κB and IL-17, PoreLyte™ supports balanced sebum production and improved skin clarity.

Proven biological activity through in-vitro studies:

The efficacy of PoreLyte™ has been validated through multiple evaluations.

In vitro testing using HaCaT and HDF cell lines demonstrated a significant downregulation of inflammatory markers such as   when treated with a formulation containing 1% PoreLyte™.

Additionally, intracellular ROS assays showed strong antioxidant capacity, equivalent to 908 µM Trolox, indicating effective protection against oxidative stress in skin cells.

Clinical validation on acne-prone skin:

To evaluate the ingredient’s performance in real-life conditions, a 28-day in-vivo study was conducted on volunteers aged 18–40 with excessive sebum and breakout-prone skin.

Application of a serum containing 1% PoreLyte™ demonstrated significant improvements across several parameters:

Reduction of lesions

Meaningful reductions in both retentional and inflammatory lesions were observed following product application **

(**The product was tested on Fitzpatrick skin types I–IV over a period of 28 days, on 39 male and female volunteers aged 18–40 years)

Reduction of Sebum Level

  • Sebum levels were reduced by 23% on average.
  • 80% of participants** observed less greasy skin.
  • Evaluated via COURAGE and KHAZAKA SM 810 PC Sebumeter

Consumer Evaluation

  • 96% found the product left their skin soft and smooth.
  • 90% were willing to continue using the product.

Formulation opportunities for cosmetic brands:

PoreLyte™ offers excellent versatility for cosmetic formulations targeting oily and breakout-prone skin.

Recommended usage levels range from 1–3%, depending on the desired sebum-regulating efficacy.

The ingredient is compatible with a wide range of cosmetic systems, including:

  • Sebum reduction gels and serums
  • Sebum control and anti-inflammatory creams
  • Toners targeting excessive oil production and inflammation
  • Cleansers for breakout-prone skin

With its water solubility and stability across a pH range of 2–8, PoreLyte™ can be easily incorporated into modern skincare formulations.
